I'm psychotherapist in Seattle, WA with a private practice in the downtown area, and as parking is costly, and I want to do my best to utilize public transportation, I take the bus several times a week. Over the last year, I've had a number of interesting encounters. Now I'm no stranger to public transport - as a transplanted New Yorker, I often go on (and on) about how much I miss the convenience and ease of the subway and the magic of a well-planned public transport network. And as a veteran of the NYC subway system, I know very well that you learn stuff when you ride with others. All sorts of stuff.
And so here's some of the stuff I've "learned" in the last few months. And hopefully I'll be more motivated to update this blog than my therapy one (http://pattersoncounseling.blogspot.com/).
Today I had the pleasure of an actively hallucinating gentleman hopping from seat to seat muttering and yelling at people, whilst wearing a bright pink flowered lady-shirt. He decided to exit the bus at the same stop and I made the wise choice to leave via the rear door of the bus. Thank goodness for buses with multiple doors.
Yesterday, I noticed this gem affixed to the inside at the back of the bus:
Hmmmmmm. So if gang rape is strictly prohibited, what does that mean for straight-up "regular" rape? And how are a variety of other "back-of-the-bus" crimes regarded? Food for thought?
I'm taking the bus tomorrow again, so who knows what gem I'll run across! Wheeeeeeee!
